Many people today say they “just aren’t into politics” or really don’t care. I understand that politics can get complicated and trigger heated arguments, which is why most people choose to avoid the topic all together. But as Americans, we have an obligation to be involved in the government that rules over us. Politics shouldn’t be something that is or isn’t your thing, it should be everyone’s thing. One of the greatest blessings that we have as Americans is democracy. So many people across the world would give anything to be able to have a say in who their ruler is or have the power to affect change. Unfortunately, many of us take this blessing for granted.
There isn’t a single American who isn’t affected by the decisions of politicians on a local or national level, whether you realize it or not. All of the decisions that they make will impact our everyday life; whether it’s putting in new traffic lights, placing a higher tax on a good or electing a new governor, it’s all important. Not caring is the worst thing that you can do when it comes to politics. If you aren’t involved in the happenings of your country, then you don’t have the right to complain about them. You don’t have to take a side or choose a candidate, just be informed! You may be surprised by how much you will learn.
